Red Sox beat Yankees 9-5 behind Beckett, 3 homers (AP)

"I might get the win next to my name," said Beckett (12-5). "I'd say I contributed by eating up some innings, but the guys that probably stuck out all year, they stuck out again today."
He said the difference from last year, when he was 6-6 with a 5.78 ERA, is his ability to execute pitches in key situations.
The Red Sox, who lost the series opener 5-2 on Tuesday night, extended their AL East lead over the Yankees to 1 1/2 games and improved their record to 11-3 this season against them.
"We can't think about what happened up until this point," Derek Jeter said. "If we did, we might as well let them have the rest of the games."
The Yankees had one big inning against Beckett, scoring four runs in the sixth ? the same amount they managed in his previous 32 innings against them this season ? and went ahead 5-4.

Beckett allowed four earned runs and six hits through seven innings. He struck out eight and walked three.
Daniel Bard and Jonathan Papelbon each pitched a scoreless inning and the Red Sox improved to 62-3 this season when leading after six.
The Yankees had taken a 1-0 lead in the third on Jeter's RBI single. The Red Sox went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the inning, scoring on Dustin Pedroia's groundout with runners at second and third and on Jed Lowrie's RBI single.
Jeter got his second single in the top of the fifth, moving into 20th place all-time, ahead of Craig Biggio, with 3,061 career hits. He was left stranded.
Boston made it 4-1 in the fifth on Ortiz's homer deep into the center-field bleachers after Adrian Gonzalez singled. It was Ortiz's 28th homer of the year and extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
The Yankees regained the lead in the sixth, helped by an error by right fielder Reddick.
Mark Teixeira was hit by a pitch leading off the inning, took second on a wild pitch by Beckett and scored on a double by Robinson Cano. Nick Swisher then walked and Eric Chavez followed with a liner down the right field line. It got by Reddick and Chavez was credited with a double. The error allowed him to take third and Swisher to score. Eduardo Nunez's sacrifice fly put the Yankees on top 5-4.
Varitek gave the Red Sox a four-run cushion in the eighth with his 10th homer.
But Ellsbury struck the big blow for Boston, against Logan.
"He threw me a couple of pretty good sliders I laid off of," he said. "He threw me a pretty good pitch away. I was able to put a good swing on it."
Besides the 24 homers, Ellsbury, in the last year of his contract, has 36 stolen bases, a .313 batting average, 97 runs and 84 RBIs as the leadoff hitter.
"That's going to be a fun arbitration case, isn't it?" Beckett said.

I never understood why anyone would pay for a gaming headset, and I always just shrugged it off as part of gaming; always content with my TV speakers to do the job for me. I can say now that I?m a complete moron? and thankfully I was given the opportunity to review a fantastic headset from SteelSeries.

It didn?t take long before I was fully immersed in my gameplay experience with the the Spectrum 7XB, delivering fantastic sound quality for my gaming experience. Providing fantastic sound quality is great but means nothing when you can hear outside sounds, and thankfully these puppies do a stellar job of omitting outside noise. One of the most important things is whether a headset is comfortable, and the Spectrum 7XB is very comfortable to wear. Even during extending gaming sessions (3-5 hours) they hold up extremely well, and don?t provide any sort of discomfort.
One of the only downsides was the setup. Instead of plugging in the transmitter box to the USB port in the Xbox 360, I had to also connect the headset?s audio cords to the TV. Along with those cords and devices, there?s also the wire connecting to the 360?s controller in order to activate chatting capabilities; because we all know you can?t play Call of Duty or Halo without the ability to trash talk. Thankfully, it?s not a complicated setup and it?s fairly simple to hook up, though PS3 headsets don?t require the extra cords that come with Xbox 360 gaming headsets; so this is somewhat of a downside. The aesthetics of the headset don?t really impress, however they do look nice, and that?s about it. They certainly won?t compete visually with the likes of some Astro and Razer headsets.
Another good feature that will no doubt come in handy to some is the fact that the 7XB can break down into four pieces for easy traveling to LAN parties, or some tourney you may want to participate in.
By default, it doesn?t take much the bring this headset alive, you are then given fantastic sound quality in its default mode. Wait what? There?s multiple sound settings? Well yes, and they offer more options for your entertainment experience. More options is a good thing. Besides the default option which still provides fantastic audio you also get Performance, for all the hardcore Call of Duty fanatics out there, Immersion for optimized environmental sound and game music and, Entertainment for your music and movies that you?re watching. It should be noted that for a wireless headset these provide amazing sound quality. I must say after using the Spectrum 7XB?s anytime I see some Turtle Beach headsets I can?t help feel disgusted by the lack of comfort and even the the sound. It?s like eating from a five star restaurant then right afterwards your done with your delicious meal you head over to McDonald?s to have a happy meal; you can?t help but feel disgusted with what your eating now compared to what you had before.
Honestly, that?s how I feel when it comes to other headset?s now compared to the Spectrum 7XB.

The way of determining whether a defendant is entitled to this aid is by using a financial eligibility calculator. This works out whether the applicant will be likely to pass or fail the test for legal aid in the magistrates court or pay a contribution if their case goes on to the Crown Court. The calculator will give a legal practitioner a good idea of whether the defendant is likely to be entitled to legal aid before the test is carried out at court.
When the test is carried out in the magistrates court, aid is only granted to a defendant who has passed the Interests of Justice test and does not have the financial means to fund their legal representation in the magistrates court. The financial means is the means test which establishes whether the defendant is financially able to fund their case. The means test will take into account income and expenses but not capital. Passported applicants will automatically pass the means test but will still need to pass the interests of justice test before they are entitled to legal aid. The means test establishes the applicant?s income and how it is distributed between any partners and children. If the applicant?s income is more than 12,475 and less than 22,325 then a full means test is carried out. This test works by looking at the defendant?s disposable income after deducting tax, maintenance and other annual costs from their gross annual income.

Last week, Elmhurst College, a small liberal arts school outside of Chicago, added a trailblazing question to its application: "Would you consider yourself to be a member of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) community?" As with questions about race, ethnicity, and religion, potential applicants will have the option not to answer. But those who do answer in the affirmative will be eligible for scholarships for underrepresented minority groups. Elmhurst's dean of admissions, Gary Rold, says asking students about their sexuality will help foster diversity and provide support for LGBT students. "We try really hard to take good care of students," he says. "The only way you do that is to meet people where they really are." Is this a good move on the college's part?
No. Teens may not yet be sure of their sexuality:?The school's welcoming and supportive attitude is great,?says Mhaire Fraser at Care2. "But asking an 18-year-old to permanently identify his or her sexual orientation is not, perhaps, the best way" to be inclusive. At that age, many students are still figuring out their sexuality. What if an applicant declares that he's gay, but after experimenting, realizes he isn't. Will "he have to give scholarship money back?"
